A Special Night Out

Retreats

A fresh round of rain called for a fresh indoor activity on Wednesday morning. Jen Neal and the Sea Colony community graciously allowed us to use an indoor pool for the LPHOH families to splash and swim. A yummy boxed lunch was provided by Chris Aumiller, Linda Neuner, and a group of ladies called ‘ The Pink Ladies’.

Joe Raskauskas and long time supporter Liz Burke treated the survivors to a special ‘Makeovers and Mocktails’ Luncheon at Joe’s beautiful home.  MaryBeth and Lilly gave the ladies a make-up and nail pampering, getting them ready for date night. In addition to providing the space in his home, Mr. Raskauskaus also made sure each special woman received a rose.

“We want to do this every day; we want to sit together all the time,” said participant Shawnee Baran.

After everyone was ‘dolled up’ they got to drop the kids off with the volunSTARs and enjoy and special dinner with their guest at one of two restaurants.  We would like to thank Cassie and her staff at Northeast Seafood Kitchen for hosting six of our couples, and also Lynn and Jim Rickard of Perucci’s Classic Italian Restaurant for hosting five of our couples.

The kids were kept happy and busy with a tour of the Bethany Beach Fire House, followed by pizza provided by Casapulla’s. A special thanks to fire chief Brian Martin for allowing us to use their facility, and thanks to firefighters Aaron, Andy, Billy, and Jeff for showing the firetrucks and ambulance to the kids. There may be some future EMTs among them!
