Family Spotlight: "A gift for the whole family" by Adrienne Conde

Retreats | Family Spotlight

LPHOH was such a reprieve after all of my treatments. Having everything prepared for us, including excursions was such a relief. All we had to do was get to our retreat destination and the fun began. We stayed in a beautiful cabin and in walking distance of the beach which was breath-taking. It was nice to make friends with other families going through the same thing. The staff was outstanding too, with lots of love our volunstar along with others just loved on us and especially my daughter. I didn’t realize how much she had missed me during this time. I was able to reconnect with her during activities like painting pottery, swimming, and playing bingo. I won’t neither will my family ever forget the time LPHOH gave us to disconnect from cancer and connect as a family once again.
When you are given a gift like 7 days of freedom, no cooking, no cleaning, and just all around being loved on, so you can focus on being a wife, mother, husband, father, and child you never be sufficiently grateful. In gratitude, we have served as volunstars, donors of necessary materials, and now, my daughter who is in 9th grade is organizing a school-wide fundraiser. I’m proud of how my daughter has been able to see and learn from the LPHOH staff the gift of giving of one self and in turn is giving back. It’s beautiful. So I chose to continue to support Little Pink because of what they did in my life and what they are doing in the lives of other families.
I don’t know of another organization that serves the entire family in quite such a way. There are get-a-ways for the cancer patient but I don’t know of any retreat for the entire family. When you are hit with cancer, your entire family unit is affected and you need somewhere and some time to rest and plug yourself into your family again. LPHOH allows you this rest period and connecting activities. I so needed this because I had slept away in pain much of an entire year from my treatments. Getting away and not having to plan anything, I was able to become mom and wife once again. There really is no other organization out there that serves the entire family. LPHOH was there when I most needed them.
