Being surrounded by and getting to know others with breast cancer felt genuine. We could instantly connect and care about each other and celebrate the ups and downs for years to come.

2024 Participant/Breast Cancer Survivor
Key West, FL

The Little Pink retreat really gave me and my husband a chance to connect and see other people in our situation. We got married in July 2023 and were excited for our honeymoon and starting our family. When I got my diagnosis in October, all of our plans halted and we went into survival mode. From the day of my diagnosis on, we felt this looming sense of “why us.” The retreat gave us a chance to change our mindset and realize how amazing people can really be.

On top of the chance to connect with each other, getting to be around people in our situation helped us realize we aren’t alone. When you get a cancer diagnosis, everyone comes out of the woodwork with “oh my so and so had breast cancer, they’d love to talk to you!” And while I know that’s genuine, it really feels more like a “I don’t know what to say but here’s this person you’ve never met who might.” Being surrounded by and getting to know others with breast cancer felt genuine. We could instantly connect and care about each other and celebrate the ups and downs for years to come.

From the other participants, to the community, and the volunstars everything was an amazing experience which my husband and I will remember and talk about for a lifetime.
